ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: do they recommend the same brands? Our data from 46 answers (2026)

If ChatGPT names your brand, do Claude and Gemini too? We asked them the same questions on the same day, and counted. The answer depends on how famous the brand is, and the pages they read barely overlap.

Cover: ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini, do they recommend the same brands

The short answer. In our two tests, they mostly agreed on a famous brand: HubSpot was named in all 30 answers, and the 3 assistants put the same brand first on 9 of 10 questions. They split on a young market: of the 5 known tools we tracked, Claude named at least one in 8 of 8 answers, ChatGPT in 3 of 8. And they read different pages: on 8 of 10 questions, no website was cited by all 3.

Do they agree on a famous brand?

Mostly, yes. On October 28, 2026, we asked ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini 10 CRM buyer questions, once each. HubSpot was named in all 30 answers. The 3 assistants put the same brand first on 9 of the 10 questions.

Two questions name a brand themselves: "HubSpot vs Salesforce for a startup" and "cheap alternatives to Salesforce". On the 9 questions that did not name HubSpot, it was still named in all 27 answers.

The one split: on "best CRM with a free plan and automation", ChatGPT and Claude put Zoho first, Gemini put HubSpot first. The place moved too. On "cheap alternatives to Salesforce", HubSpot was 4th of the 4 brands we tracked on ChatGPT, 3rd on Claude and 2nd on Gemini.

ChatGPT also named fewer competitors. It named Zoho in 6 answers where Claude and Gemini named it in 9.

Do they agree on a young, crowded market?

No. On 8 questions about white-label AI visibility tools for agencies, Claude named at least one of 5 well-known tools in all 8 answers. ChatGPT did in only 3. Otterly was named in 6 Claude answers and 1 ChatGPT answer.

ChatGPT was not silent. In 4 of its 5 other answers, it listed smaller tools built for agencies, such as CiteGaps, Niche Ranker, AIRIX, Wrenfield Data, Axiom GEO, BlueJar and AI Peekaboo. In the fifth, it mostly gave a method. The two assistants were answering the same questions with two different short lists.

The gap depends on the list you track: ChatGPT named other tools, just not these 5. So "are we in ChatGPT?" and "are we in Claude?" are two different questions. On a market where no brand dominates yet, a brand can lead on one assistant and be missing on the other.

Do they read the same pages?

Rarely. In the HubSpot test, a website was cited by all 3 assistants on only 2 of 10 questions. Overall, ChatGPT cited 15 different websites, Claude 45 and Gemini 65. Only 2 websites were cited by all 3: techradar.com and technologyadvice.com. Out of 151 different pages cited, 1 was cited by all 3 assistants.

  • ChatGPT went to the source. It cited HubSpot's own site, hubspot.com or its subdomains, in 7 of 10 answers, and competitors' own pages too, such as Zoho's.
  • Claude cited none of HubSpot's pages. Its most cited sites were other websites' comparison and review pages, such as nethunt.com and zite.com.
  • Gemini cited the most pages, led by a US Chamber of Commerce guide to low-cost CRM tools and pages from monday.com and salesforce.com.

The agency test showed the same pattern. ChatGPT cited 24 different websites, Claude 44, and only 4 appeared on both.

Why do they give different answers?

Each assistant runs its own web searches, picks its own pages, and writes its own answer. Different pages in, different brands out. And each answer is one draw: the same question can come back different the next time.

Google describes this for its own AI answers: the model runs several related searches before it answers, which it calls "query fan-out". ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini each search the web their own way, so the same question pulls in different pages. A brand that is on the pages one assistant likes can be invisible to another.

Model choice may matter too. These tests used the models our tool ran that day through the official APIs: gpt-6-luna for ChatGPT, claude-haiku-5-5 for Claude and gemini-2.5-flash-lite for Gemini. A person using the apps may see a different model, and our tool now runs Claude on claude-sonnet-5. So read these numbers as a snapshot of how the assistants differ, not as a fixed ranking.

What does it mean for an agency?

Check more than one assistant, check each question more than once, and track the pages each assistant cites. A client can be strong on ChatGPT and missing on Claude, and the fix is different for each.

  • Report each assistant on its own line. An average hides the gap that matters, like 6 of 8 against 1 of 8.
  • Track pages per assistant. If ChatGPT reads the client's own site and Claude reads comparison articles, the work differs: the client's pages for one, third-party pages for the other.
  • Repeat. One answer per question is a hint. Ask each question several times, and again next month.

What does this data not show?

It is a snapshot, not a law. One answer per question, the small default models our tool ran that day, one famous brand and one young market. Gemini was not in the agency test, and the list of 5 tracked tools shapes the count.

For the full method, step by step, see how to show a client whether ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini name their brand.

The bottom line

The three assistants do not share one list of brands, and they barely share sources. Check each one on its own line, track the pages each one cites, and repeat every month.

Questions people ask

Do ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini recommend the same brands?

On a famous brand, mostly yes: in our test, HubSpot was named in all 30 answers and the 3 assistants agreed on who came first on 9 of 10 questions. On a young market, no: of the 5 known tools we tracked, Claude named at least one in 8 of 8 answers, ChatGPT in 3 of 8.

Which AI assistant cites the most sources?

In our HubSpot test, Gemini cited 6 to 12 pages per answer, Claude 3 to 8 and ChatGPT 1 to 4. Gemini cited 65 different websites, Claude 45 and ChatGPT 15.

Does ChatGPT cite a brand's own website?

It did often in our test: ChatGPT cited HubSpot's own site in 7 of 10 answers. Claude cited it in none and Gemini in 2. So a brand's own pages may matter more for ChatGPT than for Claude.

If my brand shows up in ChatGPT, will it show up in Claude?

Not necessarily. In our agency test, Otterly was named in 6 of 8 Claude answers and 1 of 8 ChatGPT answers, on the same questions, the same day. Check each assistant on its own.

Why did ChatGPT name smaller tools?

In 4 of its 5 answers that named none of our 5 tracked tools, ChatGPT listed other tools built for agencies, such as CiteGaps, AIRIX and AI Peekaboo. It was not silent, it had a different short list.

Does Google's guide cover ChatGPT and Claude?

No. Google's guide on generative AI features covers Google Search, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. Other assistants have to be checked by asking them.

How often should I check AI visibility?

At least once a month, with the same questions and the same rules, and each question asked more than once. Answers change from one run to the next, so one check is a snapshot, not a trend.

How we tested and sourced this article

Both tests are real runs of our tool, Brand AI Answers, on October 28, 2026, through the official APIs with web search on. HubSpot test: 10 questions, one answer each on ChatGPT (gpt-6-luna), Claude (claude-haiku-5-5) and Gemini (gemini-2.5-flash-lite), Apify run mvmeTWehw4xZ9SK0i, 30 answers. Agency test: 8 questions, one answer each on ChatGPT and Claude, same models, United States, Apify run nV9t0qSug3yBD4fvr, 16 answers. All 46 answers came back.

Names are matched by code as whole words. In the agency test, the code first missed ChatGPT's spelling "OtterlyAI"; we read the 16 answers and corrected that one by hand. HubSpot is a public brand used as an example, not a client. We are not affiliated with any brand or tool named here, nor with OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.
